Climbing Ben Nevis
I recently joined a group of fantastic fundraisers to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland. Laughter, joking and John Wayne impressions abounded.
The team spirit is always brilliant during Concern challenges, and this trip was a good example of this. Whether people were meeting for the first time or reuniting from previous events, it didn’t take long before the jokes and laughter began.
I don’t think any of us were prepared for the sunshine and clear views we got. Considering many people climb Ben Nevis without seeing the view from there, we were very happy!
Everyone made it to the top full of pride. After group photos, high fives and a little sing-along it was time to head back.
West Highland Way
But this wasn’t the end of our challenge! The following day we were up bright and early again. Our legs were a little stiff but we were ready to start a 30km trek along the West Highland Way.
The way home
After all that, we made our way back to Ireland. The bus trip home involved snoozes and (for some reason) plenty of John Wayne impressions.
It was a wonderful group of people to spend a weekend with, and everyone who took part raised at least €600 for Concern’s charity work. We’re privileged to have your support – you’re making a huge difference to people living in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Note of thanks
A special note of thanks goes to Larry Healy and John Corroon. Without them, we wouldn’t have the Ben Nevis or Climb 4 Concern events. Thank you both!
Want to join us?
Our final Climb 4 Concern challenge takes place on 15 September. We’ll be climbing the mighty Carrantuohill. The deposit is €25 and everyone taking part has to raise €100.
